In this interactive, discussion-based workshop, you’ll learn about the current legal landscape for volunteer programs in NC from two practicing lawyers! Gemma Saluta, Partner, Womble Bond Dickinson, brings both her legal knowledge and her extensive, pre-law-school nonprofit and volunteer engagement experience to the topic.
Together with her colleague, Taylor Kinsey, and HandsOn’s Executive Director, Amy Lytle, the session will explore applicable NC statutes, what waivers should include, and other best practices in risk management and mitigation. Most of the class time is spent analyzing real-life case studies with your peers and the lessons they can teach all of us. Not offered locally in many years, this is a wonderful opportunity to brush up on this aspect of any organization’s volunteer engagement practices and also serves as a great follow-up or prologue to HandsOn’s Volunteer Engagement Training Program (which will be offered again next year.)
